Pakistan has an under-five mortality of 81 per 1,000 live births, whereby most children die of preventable or treatable causes, according to the End of Childhood Index developed by Save the Children. Lack of universal health coverage, inadequate diets and unsafe water put the most disadvantaged children at the highest risk of death. In fact, more than 16,000 children under 5 die every day, most from preventable or treatable causes such as birth complications, pneumonia, diarrhoea and malaria. Through continued investments in maternal and child health care, we can help children live past their fifth birthday, and give them an opportunity to build a strong future.
